Varsity Head Coach:

Ben Routson

Ben is 30 years old and grew up in Edwardsburg, Michigan, which is close to South Bend Indiana. He graduated high school from Edwardsburg High School, where he played Varsity baseball for four years, manning the shortstop and pitcher positions. After high school he went on to play baseball at Salem-Teikyo University (now Salem International University), near Clarksburg, West Virginia. At Salem he started all four years at third base and also was used as a pitcher. Ben graduated with a BS in physical education and is currently working on getting his masters in leadership studies.
Ben teaches Physical Education, Advanced Physical Education and various individual sports at GEHS. He is married to Melissa Kesterson, whose mom is currently a math teacher at GEHS. He spent one year as a volunteer coach in college and has been coaching high school for the past six years.
Ben is very excited about the 2006 upcoming season. His philosophy is that pitching and defense wins ball games. But hitting and getting on base will get you a good bit of playing time.

Junior Varsity Head Coach:

Jason Stewart

Jason is 30 years old and grew up in South Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated high school from South Charleston High School, where he played Varsity baseball for three years as a pitcher. After high school he went on to play baseball at the University of Charleston in Charleston, West Virginia. At UC he started all four years as a pitcher. Jason graduated with a BS in Environmental Science and also Masters in The Art of Teaching. Jason has coached three years at the Jr./ Sr. League, two years at Fall Baseball and before he came to East he was pitching coach, assistant coach for Varsity and Head Coach for Junior Varsity at South Charleston High School for six years. At South Charleston the Varsity team averaged 20 wins every year that he was there and the last two years that he was JV head coach they went 17-5 and 16-14. At East, Jason is going to be an Assistant Varsity coach, Head Coach for Junior Varsity and pitching coach for both squads. Jason teaches sixth grade Elementary Science at EGMS. He is married to Andrea Baker, with whom they have a child that is named Cadence. Jason is very excited about the 2006 upcoming season. His philosophy is that you work hard on the practice field and finish it on the game field.
